Subject Mentoring

Not Just Tutoring. Mentoring.

A different way to help your child learn, grow, and thrive.

Berwin Leong — Founder & Lead Mentor-Coach
We are not here to spoon-feed answers.
We are here to build learners who no longer need us.

Learning isn't just about knowing. It's about becoming.

When learners struggle, the challenge is rarely the subject.

More often, it's the approach — the way learning is being met, paced, and experienced. And the approach is shaped by three things: how they think, how they feel, and how they are taught.

Subject Mentoring sits at the intersection of two things that belong together but are rarely taught that way.

When both grow together, the difference shows.
Not just in grades — but in how learners carry themselves.

Our Approach

Teaching Pedagogy

01 Developing independent learners
02 Attaining mastery
03 Connecting the dots

Developing independent learners

At Berleaf Education, we don't tutor — we mentor-coach. Founded by Berwin Leong, our approach goes beyond teaching content. We equip learners with effective techniques to master their subjects, while coaching them to think for themselves and take ownership of their own growth.

At the heart of this is the 90-10 Effort Rule. The Mentor-Coach provides 10% — the guidance, frameworks, and direction. The learner contributes 90% — the effort, the thinking, the practice. We're not here to spoon-feed answers. We're here to build learners who no longer need us.

Attaining mastery

There's a difference between knowing a formula, understanding why it works, and being able to apply it to a question you've never seen before. Most tuition stops at knowing. We push for all three.

Our sessions are carefully designed so learners don't just absorb content — they explore it, grasp it deeply, and build the confidence to use it across unfamiliar situations. That's what real mastery looks like, and it's what leads to lasting results.

Connecting the dots

Learning doesn't end at the textbook. Through real-world examples, personal experiences, and meaningful conversations, we help learners see how what they study connects to their own lives — and to the lives of the people around them.

When a student understands why something matters and not just what to memorise, something shifts. They start setting their own goals. They start caring about learning for its own sake. That's where education becomes something they carry with them — not something done to them.

We are extremely grateful to Berleaf Education, and especially Mr. Berwin, for the tremendous support provided to our child in preparation for the AEIS exam. What truly sets Mr. Berwin apart is that he does not focus only on teaching maths content. Instead, he carefully designs a structured and progressive learning plan tailored to the child’s level and needs. Beyond content like number patterns and multiplication, he emphasises learning habits such as breaking problems down step-by-step, verifying answers logically, managing time, and staying focused. He is very patient and observant, paying close attention to learning attitude, energy, and concentration. He also helps build discipline, confidence, and resilience. Regular updates and clear parental guidance made it easier for us to support our child at home.We highly recommend Berleaf Education for meaningful, long-term learning beyond tuition.

Your child's growth doesn't happen in isolation

Subject Mentoring is about your child. But your child's growth doesn't happen in isolation, it's shaped by the relationship and dynamic at home too.

For parents whose child is already part of Berwin's mentorship, the Learner Partnership Programme brings that same understanding into coaching sessions built for you.

FAQ
Your questions answered
Quick answers to the things parents ask most.
What is Subject Mentoring and how is it different from tuition?
Subject Mentoring goes beyond teaching content. We combine academic mastery with coaching in time management, motivation, mindset development, and self-regulated learning — equipping learners with skills that last well beyond the classroom.
What is the minimum commitment?
We encourage a minimum learning plan of 3 months for effective, continuous progress. New enrolments can start with a one-month Starter Plan (trial rate) before transitioning to the Standard Plan.
How does payment and scheduling work?
Schedules are confirmed ahead of time, typically at the end of each month for the month after next. Payment via PayNow or bank transfer to Berleaf Education Pte Ltd (UEN 202446793D) confirms your commitment for the scheduled sessions.
What is the postponement and cancellation policy?
A minimum of 7 days' notice is required for postponements. Rescheduled sessions must be completed within one week. One sick-related postponement per month is allowed with immediate notification. Cancellations after confirmed schedule are forfeited and non-refundable.
Can I try a session before committing?
We recommend starting with the Learning Diagnostic (SGD 135, 1.5 hours, in-person or online) — Berwin assesses how your child learns, where the gaps are, and what's holding them back. You leave with clarity on the right approach before committing to a regular schedule.
